WHAT'S NEW?

The Dinner Dance 2008 - Back to the '80s - was a blast

Thanks to all Bosconians, their families, and friends, the Dinner Dance 2008 was a success. Thanks to the hard work and careful planning of all officers and spouses, we have enjoyed another night of togetherness and hopefully collected enough for our scholars. Thanks to the sponsors and the donors who have given a lot for our Scholarship Program. Thanks to all visitors who have graced the occasion and contributed much to our cause - bring Bosconians together to help fund the education of children. Thanks for the goodwill each and every participant displayed in the event. We all had a good time and for a good cause. God bless! And more power to the DBPAA NA!

Thanks to the Vietnamese and Filipino Bosconians

It was a successful and fun-filled event. A product of good teamwork.

With planning months before and everybody contributing every little time means, and effort, the Bosconians Get Together and Friendship Day Year 2 was a great success. Special thanks to Danny D. who put the songs of the mass into notes (music scores). Thanks to Victoria, Gayane and the Savio Angels Choir for practicing the songs weeks before and singing so well. Thanks to Joe, Phil, and Don of the Vietnamese Bosconians for arranging the music into band instruments and accompanying the singing during the mass. Thanks to all spouses of Filipino and Vietnamese Bosconians who prepared a very sumptious and filling lunch. Thanks to all who brought special food stuffs like the "turon" from Mr. Arada, and the churros from Mr. Ramos. Special thanks to Joe, Phil and Don for bringing their musical instruments (clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, bass guitars, etc) to raise the spirits of all those who have attended and lead us in a round of "St. John Bosco, Our Loving Father" song. Thanks to Joe who organized the games (sack race, egg toss, tug-o-war) and other activities. Thanks to the Bosconians who shared their presence: Willy and Cora, Rudy and Freida, Bots and Beth, Ed M., Ed N., Cesar and Lulu, Joey and Carlene Rene and Lorna, Chin and Mitos, Mel, Val and Elsa, Andy, and Mario. Thanks to the special guests who attended: Fr. Thinh, Fr. Chin, Sister Ana, Post. Jaden, Joe and Miriam, Vangie, Minda, and especially Fr. Ted. And last but not the least, a very big thank you to all our Vietnamese Bosconian brothers and sisters. I can name only a few: Joe, Phil, Don, Dan, their spouses and kids and friends. And to the souls whom I failed to mention, thank you very, very, very much.

It was a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon, and we look forward to next year. We hope to see more Bosconians next year. So as early as today we would like to invite all Bosconians in the area to come and enjoy the camaraderie, and fun with friends and family. And be one with the big, big and proud Salesian Family.

Thanks to Sonny, Benjo, Robbie, Vincent, Red and others

Last Saturday, April 26 to be exact, I participated in the Gawad Kalinga
3rd Sikad ng Bayan Fun Ride.

I got an old MTB from a very generous Bosconian, just one week before. In preparation for the fun ride, I resolved to bike to and from work which is approximately a measly four mile road trip. But, as usual, the ideal was far from the actual and out of one week of possible chances to practice, I was able to use the MTB just once.

On the day itself, I was excited but ready, despite experiencing no sleep the night before. I asked for directions to Pavillion 3 of the park and once I found the place, registered and got my jersey. At 8:30 am on the dot I joined the pack of bikers to complete 12 miles one way and 12 miles back. I met a fellow Bosconian, Tony C. (Makati 1967), who was kind enough to bike with me even when I was straggling behind. For support, Sonny G. (Mandaluyong 1971) was not far behind. At the rest stop, I met my batchmate Vincent C. (Makati 1985), who was in charge of the refreshments and fruits. It was healthy living afterall. I then met another Bosconian by the name of Obet R. (Makati 1980). At first glance, his face was familiar, like the faces you remember from long ago but can't quite recall a name. Well, we connected when I suggested some names like Dennis C. and others of his batch. Tony and Obet talked shop while I conversed with Sonny and Vincent. Benjo (Mandaluyong 1971) fixed my wobbling back wheel and I pumped my tires with air - to the max - afterall the harder the better, so I was told.

The ride back was another story. It was HOT - very, very HOT. Imagine a big giant hair dryer blowing right in your face. That's how HOT it was. And frankly, I was tired. Though not that tired to sit down on the side of the road and watch the clouds float by. No, I had the fortitude to keep on pedaling even though all the other bikers were whizzing right by me. The thing that held me up was the thought that every "sikad" I made, brought me closer to the end. Another thing were the mile markers painted on the side of the road, every half mile. So, I knew when I had reached the 6th mile and so on. I reached the finish line alone and was greeted by a photographer. I don't know where that photo went, I was too tired to find out. My legs were wobbly and tired but I could still walk. In other words, I felt great.

At the luncheon I reconnected with the Bosconians in the group and met a new one named Luigi M. (Mandaluyong 1980). He told me he taught Logic at DBTC, when I was then studying college.

I enjoyed the ride, the wind, the heat, the pain in my legs, the good food and the friendly company. And next year, I'll be back and probably bring one or two others along.

Blessed Ceferino Namuncura

Beatified on November 11, 2007

Born in Chimpay, Argentina, to the great cacique (chief) of the Araucani, Ceferino became a student of the Salesians, it was here that he grew in grace and began to yearn to become a Salesian to evangalize his people. He chose Dominic Savio as a model. He was exemplary for his life of prayer, charity, diligence in his daily duty, and for his self-sacrifice. He serves as a model for young people today to be saints in this third millenium.
Ceferino Namuncrua, pray for us.

Prayer through the Intercession of Ceferino Namuncura

Lord, we give you thanks for calling to life and faith,
Ceferino Namuncura, a son of the native people of South America.

He nourished himself with the Bread of Life, and knew how to respond with his whole heart,
living always as a disciple and missionary of your kingdom.

He wanted to be of service to others, to embrace the gospel
and carry his daily cross, in order to follow you in the ordinary moments
of everyday life.

We ask you through his intercession to remember us,
who are still on pilgrimage in this world.

(Silently pray for your personal intentions)

We also pray to be like Ceferino in his decisive love for the earth
and the human family, his generous and joyful service to others,
and his spirit of reconciliation and communion.

By doing so may we one day celebrate with him and all the saints
the eternal joy of heaven. Amen.
Blessed Ceferino Namuncura, pray for us.

Novena for Blessings or Gifts
Pray this prayer for nine days faithfully. Do something daily out of charity for others.
Promise to confess and go to communion. To report any blessings you have received
or to ask more information, you can write to: Revista Ceferino Misionero. Vieytes 150.
